On this occasion, Coloquio 6 join artist Dax Niesten to present The Magic Flute: Animating Mozart, a dazzling production told in a simple but profound way, enchanting audiences of all ages. This project aims to highlight the spirit of perhaps Mozart’s most famous opera The Magic Flute, by performing a reduction of the script with only six performers. In this project, Coloquio 6 will interpret the sung and orchestral parts in a compilation of beautiful yet meaningful arias from the opera whilst keeping coherence with the storyline. Dax Niesten is a multidisciplinary artist whose work revolves around creating miniature stories depicting the human condition through painting and animation. In this project, she will animate the story of the opera. By depicting the characters in minimalistic figures, this humouristic expressive medium will exploit the story’s most potent elements.
This project is intended for all ages. Because the story is told without words, we believe it can be understood both by children and grown-ups. Reaching wider audiences is an important value for the artists involved in this project. The simplicity of all the components also makes the production adaptable to diverse stage settings. The only requirements needed are a screen and six music stands. In this way, for one hour, spectators will be able to enjoy beautiful moments of The Magic Flute played by Coloquio 6, whilst watching the story told through animation.
